SEEK, Jobstreet and Jobsdb unify marketplace platforms, transforming APAC employment landscape

  • The merger of the three platforms comes a decade after SEEK acquired Asia’s leading online employment marketplaces, Jobstreet and Jobsdb.

  • Powered by parent company SEEK's world-class artificial intelligence (AI) technology, employers can now tap into an expanded talent pool, while talent can access more career opportunities across eight APAC markets.

Jakarta, 27 February 2024 — SEEK (ASX:SEK) has successfully merged its APAC employment marketplaces – SEEK, Jobstreet and Jobsdb – which will operate under a single platform powered by SEEK’s world-class AI technology, while retaining their individual brands. This integration aims to bring together millions of talent and employers across the APAC region to accurately match jobseekers and employers.

SEEK’s unification of its employment marketplaces comes 10 years after it acquired Jobstreet and Jobsdb and follows three years of development with an estimated AUD$180 million investment.

“At SEEK, everything we do revolves around our customers. One unified platform means we can now offer our product to millions of people across Asia in an entirely new way, so that our customers can find jobs and talent more easily. This puts us in a stronger position, more than ever before, to realise our ambition of helping 500 million people develop their careers with five million companies in the region,” says Peter Bithos, Chief Executive Officer, Asia, SEEK.
Providing access to more job seekers and job opportunities across Indonesia and the Asia Pacific

Based on the latest exclusive report titled “Hiring, Compensation and Benefits 2024” released by Jobstreet by SEEK, Indonesia’s job market is showing positive momentum going into 2024, with companies seeing this year as an ideal time to recruit, offering strong opportunities for skilled professionals.

This highlights the growing need for companies to connect more effectively with talent across Indonesia and the Asia Pacific. To support increased hiring activity, companies can now access a broader talent pool of over 40 million individuals across eight Asia-Pacific markets. These talents also gain access to more than 2.5 million job opportunities, including an increasing number of remote jobs. This is in line with Jobstreet by SEEK data, which shows that more companies are adopting hybrid work models. New SEEK features are helping recruiters address these challenges and better plan for their workforce needs in the future.

"Following COVID, unemployment dropped to 5.3%, and job applications for every available role increased by 24%. This indicates a rise in recruitment activity and greater competitiveness among job seekers. Through this integration, job searches will be 25% more efficient and relevant. On the company side, candidate selection processes will be faster by leveraging AI, with 75% of Indonesian candidates valuing a smooth and timely recruitment process. As the digital era takes center stage, this transformation reflects Jobstreet by SEEK's ongoing efforts to stay ahead of industry advancements and continually enhance and simplify recruitment processes," said Varun Mehta, COO, Indonesia, Jobstreet by SEEK.
Delivering relevant matches and personalised experiences

The unified marketplace platform brings forth new AI-powered advancements to Jobstreet by SEEK's platform, aimed at enhancing the employment experience for both employers and job seekers throughout the region.

For employers, the new platform deploys AI models to assess talent suitability and provide highly personalised recommendations by processing data from various sources, including resumes, job ad descriptions and the employer’s past behaviours. This allows employers to have a more efficient hiring process. Employers can also expedite the talent shortlist process by adding AI-recommended screening questions in their job ads.

To make the job-hunting process more efficient and relevant for talent, they can now easily be matched to AI-recommended jobs they are most qualified for based on their experience and skills. Using AI, Jobstreet also predicts when a person is likely a strong candidate for a role by showing a top applicant badge, so talent can make more informed decisions whether to apply for a role.

“AI’s potential goes beyond efficiency,” said Grant Wright, GM of Marketplace & AI Products at SEEK. “We are excited to facilitate more suitable job matches between companies and job seekers. Backed by SEEK's cutting-edge AI technology, both parties can connect more easily. AI plays a role in ensuring fairness in recruitment by promoting inclusivity and equal opportunities for all. Initiatives like seekMAX empower individuals to map out their career paths through the Jobstreet by SEEK platform."

Following the unification programme, Jobstreet can now harness a larger dataset across APAC, which will empower its AI algorithms to provide even more precise and relevant matches between employers and talent. Ultimately, this translates into an elevated user experience and expedites the hiring process on its platform.

Enabling customer-centric innovation at pace

In moving to a unified marketplace platform, SEEK can now scale its use of data-driven insight, product testing and innovation at pace.

SEEK has introduced a new feature on its Jobstreet platform – natural language search. This innovation allows talent to submit job queries using simple phrases or complete sentences on the platform, so they do not need to rely solely on keyword phrases (e.g. "Business analyst"). Powered by a large language model (LLM), the feature enables a search experience that is more organic and appealing to jobseekers. This feature has already launched in the Philippines and is set to roll out across the rest of SEEK's APAC markets by 2024.
