Founded in 1934, the Xin Zhong School at its inception was known as the Sin Hwa High School, a Chinese school for Junior High School (SMP) and Senior High School (SMA). In 1966 Sin Hwa High School's operational activities stopped due to social conditions politics at that time.In 2000, a group of alumni who have always maintained good relations since they attended Sin Hwa High School, worked together to form the Foundation of "Sarana Hubungan Harmonis Sejahtera" (SHHS). Their vision is to build an educational institution that is able to produce national leaders and even future Asian leaders through high quality education and pass on solid Chinese values to the next generation. The SHHS Foundation was formed to make their dreams come true.In July 2000 the SHHS Foundation also opened a Chinese language course at Plaza Surabaya, then August 2001 a similar course was opened in the Widya Kartika University building, Sutorejo. In 2004, the SHHS Foundation opened the Xin Zhong Play Group (KB) and Kindergarten (TK). In 2005, the Xin Zhong Elementary School (SD) is opened to the public as a national school enriched with an international curriculum and also with a Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).
